The Talking Cash Register from You Universe appears to be a surprisingly fun toy. Prior to this past Christmas, I never would have imagined small children enjoying a toy cash register. That all changed over the past couple of days as I have watched a numbers of small children aged 2-4 having a great time playing "store" with the Talking Cash Register.
I guess kids who watch grown ups interact with cash registers all the time get curious and are thereby intrigued with the idea of playing with one. What's then great is that small children get a math lesson each time they play with the Talking Cash Register which speaks (non-annoyingly) each number and symbol (+, -, X, /) and acts as a functional cash register. Moreover the Talking Cash Register comes with all sorts of pretend money - bills ($1s - $20s) and coins.
This toy also comes with a built in bar code scanner (and 30 functional bar code stickers), a credit card scanner and built in microphone. I was shocked to learn that a 3 year old knows about swiping credit cards, but I guess that's what happens when they see you regularly swipe at the grocery store.
Having only used this product for 3 days I can not profess to know for how long kids will enjoy playing with this toy cash register. That said, if the past 3 days are any sort of indicator, I will be playing lots of store this winter.
