If you like popular music at all I highly recommend Moby Play. I was stunned when I first heard this CD on headphones in the Tower Records. I was looking for exercise music, so I thought some new trance or house music would be good. This CD was in the selection for sampling. I didn't think it had the heavy consistent beat that makes for great exercise music, but the sound was unlike anything I had heard before. Furthermore, Moby used different innovative sounds and rhythms on each track. The underlying influences range from Gospel to House music, but each track innovates on its style in new interesting and wonderful ways. The innovations are so great, that it may take a couple of listenings to get used to the sound, but after that you'll be hooked. This is what happened to my husband. I brought this CD home, listened to it, was blown away, and then restarted it for him to enjoy. Unfortunately at first he found the new sounds a bit much. Still after a few plays, he frequently chooses it over other CDs for road trips in the car.
Just after getting this CD I tried another of his CD's hoping for similarly inspired tunes. Unfortunately his other work didn't leave me with the same positive impression. It was OK, but really not at this level of musical mastery.
